Understanding Glazes

Understanding glazes is a 8 week course focused on the science behind glazes. The purpose of this class is to prepare the student for self-directed glaze confidence. The course will provide information to help the student effectively utilize glaze materials in ways that enhance and improve practice. Students will work on developing technical skills, aesthetic of work, criticism, and expression. The course aims to develop a basic understanding of the following: clay and glaze defects and solutions, glaze formulas, analysis and performance, the function of ceramic oxides and color, chemical materials and temperatures, glazes in oxidation and reduction. Ages 18+.
