Intro to Metals and Jewelry

Wednesdays April 3 - May 22: 6 - 9 PM [Meghan Reese]
This class is a thorough overview of metalsmithing and jewelry basics. Students will learn how to saw using a jewelers saw, create jump rings and wire chain links, make and solder a silver ring using a torch, experiment with surface techniques such as roll printing and etching, learn to use tools like the rolling mill, disk cutter and dapping block, forge a heavy silver cuff bracelet, and create a pendant with a cabochon stone setting. Students will complete at least one silver ring, a sample set of chain links, a dapped project like earrings or a hollow bead, a heavy forged cuff bracelet, and a pendant in class. No experience is necessary! Base metals like copper will be available in the studio for student use; a silver package to complete all projects will be available for additional cost (varies according to market price of silver).
