Beginning Enameling

Fridays April 5 - May 24: 1 – 4PM or 6 – 9PM [Poppy Vincent]
Enameling is the art of fusing glass to metal. which will be accomplished by firing our pieces in a kiln or torch firing. Not only will we be in our brand new studio but we have two new digital kilns with windows! Copper will be the metal of choice. The glass enamel is very fine like sugar and can be applied through various techniques. We will work with lead free opaque and transparent enamels of different colors. Some of the techniques we will explore are sifting, wet packing, stencils, scrafitto and painted enamel. We’ll be able to form copper into small bowls and enamel them as well as make pendants, earrings, magnets or many other decorative or functional pieces. There will be copper available for experimenting. There will also be copper available to purchase for different projects such as enameling copper beads or pre-cut pendants Hand outs will be available but note taking is always recommended.
SUPPLIES: Work shirt or apron, dust mask, scotch brite pads, rubber gloves, pen/pencil and paper, eye gear, thin black marker, and dust mask. If you have long hair, please pull back into a pony tail. Purchases of copper beads or pendants are approx. $3 each.
