Intro to Stranded Knitting

Tuesdays October 15 - November 19 [6 WEEKS]: 1 - 3:30 PM [Jane Hughes-Jackson]
Stranded knitting is creating patterns using two colors/strands of yarn in the same row. From traditional Fair Isle and Norwegian to more modern designs. We will make a hat or headband and mittens or fingerless mittens. Each participant must know the basics of knitting; cast of and off, increase and decrease. They will learn to knit in the round with either double pointed needles or two circular needles. They will also learn how to make a thumb gusset for the mittens. Supplies: We will talk about patterns, yarns and needles during the first class if you are not sure what you want to make. They may also email me to discuss their options. Patterns can be found for free on Ravelry (you do not have to join). Appropriate yarn can be found at any yarn shop for $10-$20. Do not plan to use acrylic, cotton or linen. Wool is easiest to work with and since these are winter items that is the best choice.
