Beginner/ Intermediate Oil Painting Class

Mondays January 6 - February 24: 6 - 9 PM [Ashlynn Frey]
In this class, students will learn or refresh on the fundamentals of oil painting by exploring the basic techniques and concepts of painting such as composition, color theory, color mixing, brushwork, blending, and glazes. Students will explore and learn other genre of paintings such as still life, portraiture, and landscapes. Students will be encouraged to develop their own personal style. This class is great for beginners and experienced painters who want to expand their skills. Supplies: We will discuss the materials on the first day! SAA has oil paint accessible for students to use. Materials Needed: Check out Michaels, Dick Blick’s, or Jerry’s Artarama for reasonable prices. - 3 - 16x20 Canvases - Liquin - Odorless Mineral Spirits or Gamsol Odorless - 2 glass jars with lids - Paint Scraper - Cotton Rags Oil Paint: Suggested Brands: Gamblin, Rembrandt, Old Holland, (Winsor & Newton or Ultrech – Less expensive) o Titanium White o Yellow Ochre o Cadmium Red Medium or Napthol Red o Alizarin Crimson o Burnt Sienna o Burnt Umber (or Raw Umber) o Ultramarine Blue o Ivory Black - Paint Brushes : o #1 Round o #2 Flat, Round o #4 Flat, Round o #6 Flat o # 8 Flat o #10 Flat
